At Pattern Works (www.patternworks.com), the privacy of our visitors matters to us. This page explains what information we receive when you visit, how we use it, who we share it with and the choices you have. The second part is the disclaimer for the patterns and ideas we publish. Questions? Use our contact page or email elizabeth@patternworks.com.
Log Files
Like most websites, our server keeps standard log files. They record your IP address, browser type, internet service provider, the date and time of your visit, the pages you viewed and the page that sent you here. We use them to keep the site running, secure and fast. This information is not linked to anything that identifies you personally.
What Is a Cookie?
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser so it can remember something about your visit. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some features may not.
How to manage cookies in your browser:
WordPress and comment cookies
If you leave a comment, you can choose to save your name, email address and website in cookies so you do not have to type them again next time. These cookies last for one year. If you have an account and log in, WordPress sets temporary cookies to keep you signed in.
Analytics cookies
We use Google Analytics to understand which articles readers find useful, how they reach the site and which devices they use. The analytics script is served from our own server, and the measurements are sent to Google. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives your IP address, browser and device details and the pages you view. We look at these reports only in aggregate. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Advertising
Pattern Works does not currently show ads, and no advertising cookies are set on our pages. If that changes, we will update this policy before any ads appear.
Comments
When you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, your comment, your IP address and your browser’s user agent string. Your email address is never shown publicly. Comments are checked for spam by Antispam Bee, which runs on our own server and does not send your data to an outside service.
An anonymized string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service, run by Automattic, to see if you use it and show your profile picture next to your comment. Its privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy. Comments and their details are kept until they are no longer needed, so follow-up comments can be approved automatically.
Social Media and Pinterest Buttons
Our share buttons and the Pin It button that appears when you hover over an image let you save an article to Pinterest or share it. The buttons are served from our own site. When you click one, your browser opens Pinterest or the network you chose, and that service’s privacy policy applies to what you do there, for example Pinterest’s privacy policy.
Images and Page Speed
Our images are delivered through BunnyCDN from media.patternworks.com, so pages load quickly wherever you are. The CDN receives your IP address and browser details to deliver the files. Page caching and the related articles shown under each post run on our own server. We do not load fonts from an outside font service.
Embedded Content and Links to Other Sites
Most of our articles link to the designers who created the patterns we feature. When you follow a link to another site, you leave Pattern Works and that site’s own privacy policy applies. If an article ever includes embedded content such as a video, it behaves exactly as if you visited the other website, which may collect data about you and use cookies.
How We Use Your Information
- To reply to your emails and handle questions, corrections, credit or removal requests and collaboration enquiries.
- To publish and moderate comments.
- To understand which articles are useful and improve the site.
- To keep the site secure, block spam and keep pages loading quickly.
Disclosure
We do not sell, rent or trade the personal information you send us. Information is shared only with the services described above (Google, Automattic’s Gravatar, BunnyCDN and our web host) so they can provide their service, or when the law requires it. We do not run a newsletter, a shop or a contact form, so we never ask for payment details or a mailing address.
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, the UK or US states such as California), you may have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to or limit how it is used. If you have left comments, you can ask for an export of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to erase it. Email elizabeth@patternworks.com and we will answer within the time the law allows.
Children’s Privacy
Pattern Works is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site runs over a secure HTTPS connection, and access to our WordPress dashboard is limited to our team. No method of sending or storing data online is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Restriction of Liability and Disclaimer
For information only. The patterns, roundups and outfit ideas on Pattern Works are for informational and inspirational purposes. We work to keep them accurate, but we make no promises about the accuracy, completeness or suitability of any content, and we are not liable for errors or omissions.
Patterns belong to their designers. The patterns we feature are created and owned by their designers, and we link to the original. Follow each designer’s instructions and terms of use. If you see your pattern or image on Pattern Works and want it credited differently or removed, email elizabeth@patternworks.com.
No warranty. No warranty of any kind, implied, expressed or statutory, including but not limited to warranties of non-infringement of third-party rights, title, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and freedom from computer viruses, is given for the content of this website or its links to other websites.
Products and brand names. When we mention a product, yarn, brand or store, it is for your information and does not mean Pattern Works endorses it.
Affiliate and sponsored content. We do not currently use affiliate links or publish sponsored posts. If an article ever includes either, we will say so clearly on that page.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We update this policy when the services we use change. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised, and changes take effect when they are posted here.
